Privacy Policy

When you create an account: Your phone number, display name, and optionally a profile photo and status message. We use phone-based sign-in with a one-time SMS code. No password is collected.

When you use the app:

• Messages and content — the text, images, files, and voice notes you send and receive. CelesChat is an AI-powered messaging app; AI processing of your conversations is a core part of how the Service works, as described in Section 2.
• AI interactions — the prompts you submit to the AI and the responses generated.
• Basic device and usage data — device model, OS version, app version, IP address, and which features you use. We use this to keep the app running reliably, not for advertising.

Contacts: If you choose to sync your contacts, phone numbers from your address book are sent to our servers as one-way hashes. We use these only to identify which of your contacts are already on CelesChat. Numbers that do not match an existing account are discarded immediately.

CelesChat is an AI-native messaging app. By using CelesChat, you understand that your messages are processed by AI as part of how the app works.

The AI is powered by OpenAI, L.L.C., 3180 18th Street, San Francisco, CA 94110, USA. OpenAI processes message content on our behalf under a data processing agreement.

What gets sent to OpenAI: When the AI is invoked, the text of relevant messages is sent to OpenAI to generate a response. This includes the prompt text, relevant message text, and a randomly generated session token not linked to your personal identifiers. Your phone number, name, profile photo, contacts, device identifier, and IP address are never sent to OpenAI.

Group conversations: When an AI feature is invoked in a group chat by any member, the text of that conversation is included in the request. By participating in a group chat, you understand that your messages may be processed by AI.

Model training: OpenAI does not use API data to train its models by default. Celes Labs has not opted in to data sharing for model training. We also do not use your messages or AI interactions to train any AI model of our own.

We do not sell your information. We share it only as follows:

• With the people you message — your content is delivered to whoever you send it to.
• With service providers — companies that help us run the app, including cloud hosting, SMS delivery, crash reporting, customer support, and OpenAI for AI processing.
• If the law requires it — we may disclose information in response to valid legal process. Where permitted, we will notify you before doing so.
• In a business transaction — if Celes Labs is acquired or merged, user data may transfer to the new entity, subject to the same privacy commitments.

• Messages and content — until you delete them or delete your account.
• AI conversation context — tied to the conversation; deleted when you delete the conversation.
• AI chat history — until you clear it or delete your account, fully removed within 30 days.
• Delivery metadata — up to 30 days, then deleted or anonymised.
• Account information — removed within 30 days of account deletion.

When you delete your account, previously sent messages remain in other users' conversations, attributed to "Deleted user."

• Update your profile in Settings › Profile
• Delete individual messages you have sent
• Delete your account in Settings › Account › Delete Account

To request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data, email privacy@celeschat.com. We will respond within 30 days.

We use TLS encryption for data in transit and AES-256 encryption at rest. Access to user data within Celes Labs is role-restricted, audited, and logged.

CelesChat is not for anyone under 13. If we discover we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. Parents can contact us at privacy@celeschat.com.

Regardless of where you live, you can access, correct, or delete your personal information using the controls in Section 5 or by emailing privacy@celeschat.com.

California residents have rights under the CCPA including the right to know what data we hold, to delete it, and to opt out of any sale of personal information. We do not sell your data and do not use it for targeted advertising.

EEA, UK, and Swiss residents have rights under the GDPR including access, correction, erasure, portability, and the right to object to certain processing. You can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
